A sneak peak of our future.

November the 16th a brilliant student called Thomas David Seals in DMU studying Fine art, second year, made a presentation just to tell us about what is waiting for us next year by explaining us how lucky we are for getting used to the system of the university before things get serious. He made us look at the bright side of doing a foundation course just by giving us his own experience with the university that we are in right now.
He gave us tips and showed us his technique and schedule for being well organized and successful in the course he is taking. His language was really formal which showed how serious he is with his studies.
I learned so much from him that day. He showed me and encourage me to be a better student and I will always remember what he said " there is no such thing as a day off" I can always  manage to do something with my studies even if it's minimal.
Respect to this guy.

My Fifth and Final Piece!

After Four project and training on photoshop I was able to finish this project on time.
This is my last piece and it's also a modern Venice. The boat was a extra in the image that I personally liked. It kept the overall look of the image in theme of my Major project.
And There you have it my final project.

The Process of the Fourth Piece.

During this Video, you will see the process of the project and how each layer has been coloured, trimmed and shadowed. Everything was made from scratch. The colour of every wall, Brick and wood pattern has been modified and changed to much the rest of the picture colour gamma.

Fourth Piece...

Here it is. My fourth and totally changed piece. a Modern Venice that may look like this if modernised. Basically i used the same technique used before but added some layers of design and i worked more on the shadowing to make the building look more realistic. What was really hard to accomplish is the effects that i applied on almost every layer I used. This project took me two days to finish it. After a few tries and effect it  looked good and this time I did not add any sky to the picture because I thought that the one present looked good with the colours of the building that looked more realistic than the others. This is what modernism look like . The simplicity of the windows and entrance makes it more realistic and recent, especially the glass effect.

Modern...

After Three major project looking the same i decided to modify the technique i'm using and apply some modern touches top the editing. I started looking at modern building around the city of Leicester and some online and noticed that the basic thing that changed from the old structures of building to the modern ones is the style of the balcony and the doors which turned more into a perfect shape like a rectangles and squares and the shape of the buildings changes from being a cube to different cut outs and shapes that aren't perfect. Based on that point of view I worked on photoshop to edit the pictures left to me and using designs and patterns i took of the simple colours into more realistic designs.

Third Major Project.

This is a video of how i progressed with my third project.
In this photoshop editing I did a lot of effect layers to add a more glass effect on windows and the shadowing of the figures in the building.

The Second Piece.

This is the second piece of my major project. I used mostly what i saw in the web about the structure of venice's architecture. All of their windows and door are special with the structure they have.

Michele Sanmicheli.

Michele Sanmicheli (1484–1559) was a Venetian architect and urban planner of Mannerist-style, among the greatest of his era. I saw this building that he designed and got the idea of the arched door shape all around the buildings including the windows and that is how i got the idea of these shape and designs for the doors and windows in my major project. For more distinction, i noticed this old Roman design between every window which is basically straight lines and a top of a pillard.

Venice architects insist on designing their constructions with semi arched doors and windows and that is what i'm doing in my major project.

Andrea Tirali.

Andrea tirali was an Italian architect working in Venice born in 1657, Tirali was responsible for the intricate design of the pavement in the Piazza San Marco in Venice, for the elaborate tomb of the Valier family and for St Dominic Chapel in the Basilica of Saints Giovanni e Paolo, Venice. He also designed the portico to the Church of Tolentini, Venice. Vidl's facade and the entrance staircase to Ca' Sagredo. He was the architect of Villa Sceriman at Mira and Villa Morosini at Fiesso Umbertiano.
This architect inspired me in the coloring of the building, as we can see from his work the Buildings in Venice are simple but age amplified their beauty.  Simple designs are made to the door and windows which are minimal and right above them there's the design that makes the building look 3D. Using this artist's work i tried to imitate his performance but digital is way more different from sketching so photoshop didn't help with the minimal details to make it look realistic, or at least my skills using it.

My Website.

We've been working on creating a website using wix for over two weeks now in digital art class. I don't like over messy websites so i designed mine with minimal details so that it can be clear and not messy.
The website is not published yet but it will be in next two weeks just until i finish all my major projects. However, I took some screenshots of the website and as you can see is mainly in black and white and the backgrounds are my drawings or a picture of me. in addition i have 3 pages, Homepage, about and project page and for more information and opinion developper i added a link to my blog which you are reading now. Hope you'll like it, i'll post a blog when it's published to the world.

First Piece.

Here it is! The first piece of Venecester project. All of it was done on photoshop using the two point perspective technique by linking two existing lines of the picture and the buildings in it to define the exact location of the two point perspective and by linking them i got my horizon.

Most of the work was done using lines starting from perspective points. And there you have it.
-Joe

First Work.

As i showed in my last post, i'm using the images already posted to add some digital buildings using photoshop and this is how far I got. i used gradient, lines, eraser, clipping mask, and some basic tools for editing my photo.
I'm not an professional photoshop editor that is why my work doesn't look realistic but shows atleast a variety of colors present in Venice and idea of it on the board of the River.

Last stop.

I was going back to campus on the same day and i was passing through castle garden and I took those shots while standing on the bridge over Soar River to go in the garden. In the image you can see Newarf accommodation which will be erased and instead will be colorful building just like Venice and this is when i considered on making half the bridge look like Venice and the other half like Leicester which is full of trees, nature and gardens as posted in a previous blog. The swans are an extra benefit which shows the river life in Leicester and the one in the grand canal in Venice. Furthermore you can see the bridge on Newarke Street which add a little effect of oldness to the city located in.
Drawing the building on the side is basically following the drawing method of the one point perspective and by using this method it'll be easier to draw and give it a realistic touch because as you can see in the original picture if we extend every horizontal line of Newarf buildings they will meet in one point alongside the borders of the river just behind the bridge.
-Joe

The same sunday afternoon.

After frog Island, i went back towards campus but first i stopped on the bridge on St Augustine road and took few shots while standing on the bridge and later on went down the stairs and took other shots river side. I liked the pictures taken on the bridge, they show more the ambiance of the river and makes it more venice ish because of the presence of bridges and because of the presence of pedestrians walking down the river, the editing will look more realistic but what makes the image desperate is the white grey sky. Those images are the original ones but i will edit them and add more effects as well as a blue sky.

-Joe

The major project.

For this term, my major project should consist of 5 to 10 pieces of work fully edited and completed.
The project of venicester on improving day after day although most of my tries were fails but i'm sticking to it till the end.
i'm sharing photographs i took on a journey around Leicester. Not all the pictures are necessarily included in my major project but i surely tried to edit them.
This picture was taken at frog island around 3:30 pm on the 1 of November, a Sunday afternoon. I will probably change the sky  just because it does not have this blue colour and it looks bright and very white and certainly i'll draw buildings on the river side.
what i like about this picture is the nature around the river. It looks similar to Venice with all the green natures just like on balconies in Venice  but what may be a problem to my project is the reflection of trees in the water but i'll manage to edit it up somehow.

-Joe

Final design:

Here it is, the final editing of the poppy. The seed is a bomb and the petal is a poster from WWI and as posted before the stem is a gun and the petals are old medals. This is my rememberable poppy design for this year, hope you like it.
-Joe

Before
After

Poppy Day:

As i already posted about the project, this is a screenshot of the process on photoshop. The petals will be made out of pictures of well knows figures of WWI. The effect were basic ones such as transform and erase and filling capacity.
-Joe

A one day Project:

Today is November 10 which means it's remembrance day in the UK. In digital art today we have to edit a picture already given to us and make it more interesting and related to remembrance day so based on my quick researches and ideas, i'll photoshop the poppy and add military medals as the leaves, and a riffle for the stem. I didn't pick an idea for the petals but when i do i'll blog it.

The start...

On Friday i rented a camera from the university for the weekend to start my major project by shooting river Soar. It was my lucky weekend. the sun was out finally and i wouldn't miss my chance to go around Leicester with my camera to take the pictures.
I went for a walk and ended up at frog island and took some pictures but the quality of the landscape wasn't what i expected it to be so i changed my location and went to kings garden and positioned myself on the metal bridge right above the river which gave me the possibility of capturing both sides of the river but what was bothering me about my pictures was the presence of the trees on the boarder of river Soar. There is no trees in venice specially on the sides of the grand canal. But eventually i got the idea of keeping the trees so that one side belonged to Leicester and the other to digital Venice.
I will be sharing my pictures soon with a little bit of editing but first feel free to comment on the idea given whether it'll fit with the main idea of the project or no.
